Suzy Poling is an interdisciplinary artist working with sound, video, film, photography, installation, sculpture, painting, collage, and performance art. Pod Blotz is an Audiovisual project primarily combining video art programs, datamoshing, 3D designs with refractive kinetic mirror sculptures, creating a unique cauldron and light and sound with a forward-facing and futuristic sensibility. Poling researches the multi-dimensional interferences between optics, mirrors, sonic resonance, electrical synthesis, video experiments, human/alien identities, and inspections of geological anomalies. Pod Blotz combines Sound Structures with Techno music, making an authentic blend of Sound Art, Drone, field recordings, syncopated pulse, and textures into abstract arrangements similar to IDM composers or outlier Electronics. Poling’s roots came from Techno as they spent their youth going to underground raves as a teenager in Detroit, however, they spent most of their sonic explorations in Experimental musical realms, exploring posthumanist concepts, cathartic performative gestures, and otherworldly sound sources. Pod Blotz began in 2002, has released over 25 cassettes and vinyl releases, has toured the US for years, and had a major release on Dais Records in 2020. Sonically, they have performed at the Recombinant Media Labs Festival, Hospital Productions Festival, Contemporary Jewish Museum, Colour out of Space Festival, San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, Yerba Beuna Center for the Arts, Berkeley Art Museum, Human Resources, The LAB, and Bemis Center for the Contemporary Arts. Pod Blotz has made releases with Dais Records, L.I.E.S. Chocolate Monk (UK), Nostilevo (LA), Conjunto Vacio (Spain), ClanDestine Records (UK), and Dungeon Taxis (NZ/NYC), and more. Visually, Poling’s artwork has been seen in The New York Times, Harper’s Magazine, Dazed Digital, and a Metropolitan Museum of Art Book. Poling is a recipient of the Mike Kelley Foundation Grant and was a nominee for the SECA Award at the SFMOMA, and has had 8 solo art exhibitions in Chicago, Detroit, and San Francisco. Visually, her work has been exhibited at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Spring Break Art Fair, Southern Exposure, Disjecta, Cal Polytechnic University, Chicago Cultural Center, Australian Center for Photography, Aperture Foundation, Cult Exhibitions/Aimee Friberg, and Zg Gallery. Poling is from Michigan, studied at Columbia College in Chicago, lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and is now based in Detroit.

Transdimensional System is the reflection of catharsis, beauty, texture, and the cognitive complexities of human adaptation in the post-technological era and industrial landscape. The catalyst of this expression resulted from a physiological and mechanical transformation during my surgical implantation, eliciting reinterpretations of materiality in relationship to the human form. This collection of work aims to redefine new systems- the body as a landscape or landscape as a body, a transference of life. This sonic and visual representation brings to attention the concerns about the potential dangers of future/post-human philosophies, AI, cybernetic systems, and humanity’s role amidst our civilization’s entry into the Anthropocene. Released on Dais Records, 2020.
